We're starting to get excited for another fabulous school year here at PPS! Make sure to check your mail for important back to school information. Also, make sure to mark your calendars for Tuesday, August 30 from 8:00 - 9:00 for our Open House! I can't wait to see you all.

Students, I am asking you to bring two things to school with you during the first week. The first is your very favorite book and the second is a photo of you and your family to add to our classroom family tree.

Families, students are not required to bring any supplies to school. However, if you are going back to school shopping and want to donate to our classroom check out our Classroom Wish List .

What is a New Year's Resolution

Today in Room 7 we discussed New Year's Resolutions. Here is what we think a resolution might be...

  • I think a New Year’s Resolution is thinking about a new thing you want to do this year. - Jacob
  • I think a New Year’s Resolution is something that you want to try to be done with. - Emily H.
  • I think a New Year’s Resolution is like when you start a new life and start something new. - Isabella
  • I think a New Year’s Resolution is when you try to start something new. - Suri
  • I think a New Year’s Resolution is setting a goal for the year. - Becky
  • I think a New Year’s Resolution is when you try really hard to get something done. - Emily S.
  • I think a New Year’s Resolution is something new. - Hunter

Nutrition Unit

We have kicked off our Nutrition Unit! In this unit students are asked to consider the following essential question: What choices can I make to be healthy?

As a result of this unit students will be able to answer all of the following questions:
  • What can I do to keep my body healthy?
  • What are the characteristics of healthy foods?
  • What are the five food groups that have been identified as important to human health? What are Some specific foods within each food group?
  • Where can healthy foods be found? What are five healthy foods that you enjoy eating?
  • What nutrients does your body need to stay healthy? What are different foods that provide these nutrients.
So far we have identified the 5 food groups and today we practiced sorting different foods in the appropriate groups. We also realized that some foods are considered 'Sometimes Foods' and are in their own group.

Make sure to ask your student what they have learned so far!
