Research in Room 7

This week we launched our informative reading and writing units of study! The students have been thrilled to see all of the different things that they can learn from informative texts. A big part of this unit is ownership of learning. Now that students are in second grade they can begin reading to learn. Today we brainstormed different questions or topics that we want to learn about. Some of the questions students had were:

  • Who made the alphabet?
  • Why do giraffes have such long necks?
  • Why do some people have asthma?
  • Who is the best basketball player in the world?
To see your student's questions check out their blog!

Next, we will begin researching. We will be using books, magazines, and the internet. The search engine that we will use is called 'KidRex'. This site is designed specifically for kids and does not feature any ads or other adult content. If your child is interested in accessing this site from home the link is below.

Hopefully you will begin hearing lots of interesting new facts at the dinner table!

Wednesday, August 3, 2016

We're starting to get excited for another fabulous school year here at PPS! Make sure to check your mail for important back to school information. Also, make sure to mark your calendars for Tuesday, August 30 from 8:00 - 9:00 for our Open House! I can't wait to see you all.

Students, I am asking you to bring two things to school with you during the first week. The first is your very favorite book and the second is a photo of you and your family to add to our classroom family tree.

Families, students are not required to bring any supplies to school. However, if you are going back to school shopping and want to donate to our classroom check out our Classroom Wish List .

What is a New Year's Resolution

Today in Room 7 we discussed New Year's Resolutions. Here is what we think a resolution might be...

  • I think a New Year’s Resolution is thinking about a new thing you want to do this year. - Jacob
  • I think a New Year’s Resolution is something that you want to try to be done with. - Emily H.
  • I think a New Year’s Resolution is like when you start a new life and start something new. - Isabella
  • I think a New Year’s Resolution is when you try to start something new. - Suri
  • I think a New Year’s Resolution is setting a goal for the year. - Becky
  • I think a New Year’s Resolution is when you try really hard to get something done. - Emily S.
  • I think a New Year’s Resolution is something new. - Hunter
